Your Patch Cable, is it plugged?
What is six feet in length, goes around your workstation and helps you get anywhere? What else but a Patch Cable. Well being six feet in lenght is standard for these guys. I wish it’s also a standard in height in for most humans, especially me. Well anyways, patch cables are also used to connect computers to path panels, or any computer equipment that are not alike to be connected. It’s usually one of the cause of connectivity problems, speaking on my personal experience. Users call on you saying that they could not use the network printer, the internet, etcetera, etcetera. So you start isolating the problem via phone with a non-techie person. You try to check a lot of things, network ip address, subnets, dns, but you did not ask if his patch cable is properly connected, and it’s not. So before you get bald scratching your head trying to find out what’s the problem, start with the basics of troubleshooting. Check first the cable connection, it might just be the problem….
