If you are then you will be very lucky indeed to have a good supplier on your doorstep, they are few and far between. In the absence of such a supplier you are in danger of falling into the biggest trap for 1st time purchasers – the impulse buy. I have nothing against impulse buying, it is just that it is rarely suitable to telescopes. Toy store, department and superstore telescopes are generally quite poor. They may look fantastic in their box and promise unbelievable magnification but invariably you are going to be disappointed and quite possibly put off a wonderful hobby that could last a lifetime. So if you are thinking of going out telescope buying then my advice is to stay seated and do your research and make your purchase online. You may have to wait that bit longer but oh boy will it be worth it.
