Different Glass Railing Types…

Since the dawn of aluminum railings we have seen the “picket” railing, the “glass” railing and now the “topless glass” railing.

The picket railing is still a popular choice but many are migrating to the glass railing as it provides a much more open look and allows a more unobstructed view.

The newest system is called “topless” glass railing. This system only has vertical posts with no top or bottom horizontal railings. This allows an even greater non-restricted view. For those with a great lake, mountain or scenic view this is the railing of choice.

What many don’t realize is you are also able to mix systems. It is not uncommon to use pickets on the stairs but glass on the straight parts. Or use topless on the “view” part and a less expensive option on the other sides of the deck.

A great site with some excellent pictures of the various styles of glass railing is www.railing-decking-fencing.com.

They also offer some very simple do it yourself options.
