Vicodin Addiction - Not What You Think

Vicodin is one of the most widely prescribed pain relievers today.  It is very effective at relieving pain for people recovering from surgery.  Unfortunately, it is also highly addictive and presents a tolerance.  The more your body gets used to the drug, the more of the drug you need.

A doctor will usually prescribe Vicodin a couple of times before he realizes his patient is hooked.  He will then advise the patient to “wean” himself off of the drug.  This is practically impossible to do as Vicodin is a powerful opiate.  Soon the doctor will not prescribe any more of the drug, for fear of malpractice charges, and the patient resorts to a number of means to get his fix.

Some of the means patients use to get Vicodin include falsifying prescriptions, doctor hopping and even purchasing them on the black market.  Doctor hopping includes visiting a bunch of different doctors who will prescribe the pills.

Vicodin addiction puts a stranglehold on any individual and is just as dangerous as any street drug addiction.  Yet it is still widely prescribed as an effective pain medication.  If you feel you are addicted to Vicodin, do not attempt to “wean” yourself off the drug on your own, seek solid medical attention.  Mark Houston Recovery is a drug and alcohol rehab center located in Texas that can help you.
