The Mechanics Of The Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy

The vertical sleeve gastrectomy is a restrictive and non-adjustable procedure which permanently reduces the size of the stomach by between 60% and 85%. The larger and rounded portion of the stomach is removed and the remaining stomach (which looks a little bit like a sleeve, hose or tube) is capable of holding between 15% and 40% as much food as the original stomach. Because the sleeve gastrectomy operation is a purely restrictive procedure you do not need to take vitamins or mineral supplements as you do with some other forms of weight loss surgery, as long as you are eating a healthy and balanced diet.
