Should Universities Have To Provide Low Cost Medical Insurance?
Many young people are covered under their parent’s health insurance plans today and it is their move to university which suddenly finds them without cover. It is no surprise however to find that a substantial number of students either don’t think about this or simply ignore it on the grounds that it is silly to pay for something which, in their opinion, they are unlikely to need. Unfortunately, while this is the case for many students, each year all too many students find themselves in severe financial difficulties as a result of illness, accident or injury. This raises the question of whether or not universities should provide health insurance for their students or, at least, should make low cost medical insurance available to students in much the same way as employers do for their employees. Given the fact that university students as a group are generally young, fit and healthy providing such cover would not exactly cost the universities an arm and a leg.
