A New Procedure for the Obese - Sleeve Gastrectomy

The options for extreme weight loss for the morbidly obese are increasing as newer procedures are being introduced to help the obese get control of their weight. And, with the advent of newer procedures, the associated risks have declined as well. Sleeve gastrectomy is one such new procedure that induces weight loss by restricting food intake. In this surgical procedure, the stomach is reduced to about 35% of its original (pre-obesity) size. This is accomplished by removing a large portion of the stomach surgically. This allows a person to feel full after eating only a small portion. It is through these smaller portions, and subsequent lower caloric intake, that weight loss can be achieved.
