Finding Good Privacy Software

28 September 2008

If you’re using a communal computer, such as a central office PC or a family computer, and you don’t want people to stumble across any evidence of what you’ve been doing online, then I highly suggest getting yourself a good privacy control software program.  Computer privacy software is very widely available now.  I read a ParetoLogic Privacy Controls review and downloaded that one.  It’s a great program that’s fast and very easy to use.  It not only clears browser cache files, but it also clears the cache files of third party programs such as Adobe Acrobat.

Apple kills iPhone developer’s App Store end-around

28 September 2008

Apple Inc. has closed a loophole that had allowed a rejected iPhone developer to sell his application using a distribution channel meant for beta testing and enterprises.

Alex Sokirynsky, creator of an iPhone and iPod Touch application called Podcaster, confirmed that he has been blocked from selling any additional copies of his program. “Basically, Apple denied me from provisioning new devices,” Sokirynsky acknowledged in an e-mail.

Apple had said it rejected the tool two weeks ago because it duplicated features in the company’s own iTunes software. “Since Podcaster assists in the distribution of podcasts, it duplicates the functionality of the Podcast section of iTunes,” Apple told Sokirynsky.

After Apple rejected Podcaster, Sokirynsky had sold the software using the “Ad Hoc” mechanism, Apple’s name for the distribution channel it set up earlier this year to help developers beta-test their iPhone applications. The mechanism is also used by enterprise developers to offer custom iPhone apps to corporate users for business use.

Ad Hoc allows up to 100 iPhones or iPod Touch devices to download iPhone downloads and install a specific build of an application. To enable downloads, a developer must obtain each iPhone’s UDID (unique device identifier) code. Sokirynsky created a Web site to sell Podcaster directly to customers for $9.99; during the process, buyers had to submit their iPhone’s UDID, then download and install the application to their computer.

Apple has effectively shuttered that sales channel by shutting down Sokirynsky’s account.

On Monday, he posted an entry to his blog blasting Apple’s move. “All I wanted was for someone from Apple to contact me and tell me how we can work it out so that I get into the App Store,” Sokirynsky said on the blog. “Instead, Apple took the coward’s way out by simply disabling features in my developers portal. This seems like a childish move for a company that has been proving [sic] such high-quality service and products in the past.”

Sokirynsky deleted the post shortly after it went live. On Tuesday, in response to questions, he said he regretted writing the blog. “That was written very late at night. I really didn’t mean to write and so I took it down. I should have waited a few days to cool off before writing the post.”

Others, however, have linked Sokirynsky’s move to reports that Apple has told iPhone developers that the nondisclosure agreement (NDA) that they signed covers all correspondence between the company and its developers, including rejection notices.

Sokirynsky did not immediately reply on Thursday to further questions about a link between pulling his post and Apple’s NDA.

“Apple just closed a loophole in their system and you can’t blame them for that,” he said on Tuesday via e-mail.

iPhone wins Gadget of the Year

28 September 2008

It has been reported by Reuters that the Apple iPhone has just won the “Gadget of the Year” award from Stuff Magazine. The publication gives out the award each year and this year wasn’t easy for the iPhone. The Apple iPhone had to beat out the Microsoft Xbox 360, Wii Fit Add-on, iPhone 3G Accessories says and B&W’s Zeppelin iPod speakers. The Apple iPhone won the award in a year which dropped calls, unreliable 3G service, and crashing software downloads were rampant. This could explain why Stuff Magazine did not award the iPhone 3G the Editorial Staff’s choice of top gadget, which went to ASUS Eee PC.

Turkey and the Turkish Delight

28 September 2008

The most well known sweets associated with Turkey are the Turkish Delight, and “baklava”, giving the impression that these may be the typical desserts eaten after meals. This, of course, is not true. First, the family of desserts is much richer than these two. Secondly, these are not typical desserts as part of a main meal. For example, baklava and its relatives are eaten usually with coffee, as a snack or after a kebab dish. This however do not deter people from eating it after a sumptuous meal.

New competition for the iPhone from Google Android

27 September 2008

So both phones aim to bring the smartphone features to the fans, Google simply provides the OS and a developer’s SDK; handset manufacturers are free to license the OS for their hardware if they choose, similar in that respect to Symbian or Windows Mobile. Apple, on the other hand, makes the OS and the hardware, and developers must submit their apps for review before being allowed to distribute via the App Store.

T-mobile unveiled the G1 yesterday, an HTC-built handset using Google’s Android mobile operating system. Many praise Google for its far more open approach to the OS and application distribution compared to Apple’s walled garden. However, Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Muster says, in a note seen by AppleInsider, that Apple will experience “little or no impact on near-term iPhone sales” as a result of the G1 launch.

Though the G1 is looking pretty darn open compared to the iPhone, it does have some issues that might drive away potential customers. For instance, it is SIM-locked to its carrier and can’t be used as a tethered modem with a laptop, both common criticisms of the iPhone as well says HDMI Deals. The phone doesn’t sync with a computer, instead relying solely on Google’s mobile web-based applications, and has no Exchange support for enterprise customers. For heavy iTunes users, the handset isn’t compatible with any FairPlay-protected content, and can’t even play video out of the box. And, the hardware doesn’t include a standard headphone jack, instead requiring an adapter for HTC’s proprietary connector.

Dancing Is Dancing

27 September 2008

A girl I once knew named Olivia was experimenting with different hobbies. First she tired tennis which was too much for her little arms. Next she tired writing poems which she found was too hard for her to rhyme words to each other. Next she tried video games. This turned out to be a good avenue to go down because she found the Nintendo Wii. She found that wii dance was a perfect form of a hobby. She could learn so many new dances, have a blast with friends and get lots of good exercise at the same time.

Learning The Affiliate Marketing Game

27 September 2008

If you’re looking to earn money online through different means, then I highly suggest learning about internet affiliate marketing.  This is what I do to earn money online, and I find it highly effective and easy.

All you really need to do is to develop websites that get found on the search engines by desperate buyers who want solutions to their problems.  This can be in the form of software, ebooks, phsyical goods, and more.  I recommend starting out with a good learning program such as the very good Profit Lance system.  I found this program to be very good at explaining the different affiliate marketing rules.
