Cuckoo Clocks From Switzerland
25 March 2008
The chalet style of cuckoo clocks originated in Switzerland at the end of the nineteenth century, when they were valued highly as Swiss souvenirs. The chalet style is further sub-classified into three different styles, the Black Forest chalet, the Swiss chalet and the Bavarian chalet cuckoo clock. All these style include a cabin and figurines coming out of the cabin at every hour. Some models have even little dolls or angels coming out of the cabin instead of the traditional cuckoo bird. Another development is the introduction of musical notes into the cuckoo clock, instead of the old cuk-coo sound of the bird. The unique feature of chalet cuckoo clocks is that they generally come in brighter colors than the traditional cuckoo clocks; hence they are preferred more than the conventional cuckoo clocks.
