North Iowa bullheads in the spring
27 February 2008
North Iowa vacations are all about fishing in the summer. There are several lakes in the northern part of the state that are well known for their bullhead populations. The people from Minnesota laugh at people fishing for bullhead, but we Iowans enjoy the way they fight and the way they taste in the early part of the summer. That is the trick though, you really want to catch your bullheads before the water gets too hot. The warmer the water gets the more rotting debris there is for the fish to eat. It is that rotting food that will give a bullhead it’s bad smell and taste.
